UFC 90

UFC 90 was a wild WILD week of fun in Chicago for FIGHT CHIX. We had Miss Rara fly out and stay with us. (see www.missrara.com) She had a blast and always has such a postive energy that spreads to everyone…it was a treat to have her in Chicago.

10.22 was a preparty at Sushi Samba. Fabricio Werdum and his Chute Boxe crew came by. Tracy Lee made a brief appearance with Miguel Torres and Cole Miller. Heidi from Bella Entertainment was playing host for the party and she did a great job. Also there were the owners of Caged In MMA Apparel Store. All great people!

10.23 we were off to a few clubs in the city. After picking up Rara from the airport, we had a nice dinner and then off to meet Shonie Carter and George the Greek at Club 720. Again Tracy Lee popped in with Miguel Torres. Miguel and Rara did a little salsa dancing…and Shonie one upped them by dacing with BOTH Rara and Elisabeth. Then it was off to Enclave and finally to Level, where Dan, the VIP host took great care of us—giving us a VIP experience and bottle service for all the visitors that came in to hang with us—Clay Guida, Cole Miller, Tracy Lee, and a group of CRAZY Canadians who are all friends with Patrick Cote.

10.24 was a more relaxed day—of recovery. We headed to Maple Ave Pub for some preparty fun during “lover boy” night. Then it was off to Spy Bar for www.combatlifestlye.com 1 year anniversary party. Plenty of fighters where on hand enjoying a good time.

10.25 Elisabeth’s Birthday—AND the UFC. We had sponsored Fabricio Werdum, and unexpectedly he was KOed in the first minute. We are glad to hear he is ok, but he did sustain some serious injuries that forced him to lay low that night. We had a huge after party planned for him at Level (www.levelchicago.com) but he was unable to attend. So when we where at the hotel to pick him up—we grabbed Hermes Franca, Dean Lister, Greg from the TapouT show, and a few other fighters to get them into the city for some fun. The FIGHT CHIX After Party was INSANE and plenty of great music and lots and LOTS to drink.

We also debuted the new guys shirt “Trust No Bitch” photos coming soon!

FIGHT CHIX PIX

Before we get into the pix for UFC 90 in sweet home Chicago…we would like to welcome back Miss Rara (www.missrara.com) to Chicago. She will be at Febricio Werdum’s after party at Level Chicago on Rush Street in the city. The party is hosted by FIGHT CHIX (www.fightchix.com) and Eminent (www.eminentlifestyle.com) and transportation provided by MJM SEDAN AND LIMO (mjmsedansandlimos@gmail.com)

Thanks to all that have contributed to making this weekend plans the BOMB! Hopefully we’ll get some pics on our favorite post fight party site www.combatlifestyle.com

And now the FIGHT CHIX PIX

Josh Burkman Vs. Pete Sell

Pete Sell is always a tough opponent, but he is on a 3-fight losing streak and in need of a win badly. Will that make him go for broke or come out cautious? Burkman who is on a 2 fight losing streak and lost 3 out of his last 4 bouts is also in need of a win. This fight could be a winners stays in the UFC type bout. While I believe they are evenly matched on their feet, Burkman probably has better wrestling and can control the ground. His conditioning is going to be better than Drago as well. I believe Burkman will weather an early storm and come up with a TKO victory late in the 2nd round.

Hermes Franca Vs. Marcus Aurelio
Former training partners both coming off losses. Franca had some ring rust in his last fight after the year suspension. Aurelio is coming off a decision loss to top contender Tyson Griffin. Look for some sparks to fly early but Aurelio to control the bout to a decision victory.

Dan Miller Vs. Matt Horwich
A battle that could have been a title fight in the IFL, Horwich the former 185lbs champ out of Matt Lindland’s Team Quest, and Dan Miller from the east coast. Matt holds the edge in experience, and has a huge upside with his open minded approach to improving as a fighter and student of life. Dan is very under rated and is finally getting the stage to display his skills. This is a hard one to pick. Matt holds the advantage in experience and his conditioning is out of this world. His striking has improved and his wrestling and ground are solid. Miller hasn’t really been tested, but has some solid submission skills of his own. Look for Horwich to keep the fight in the clinch and work for takedowns against the fence in classic Team Quest fashion and control the fight for a decision win.

Spencer Fisher Vs. Shannon Gugerty
Fisher is one of the most exciting and complete fighters in the 155lbs division. He is taking on submission fighter Shannon Gugerty. Shannon should have a good showing and come out to fight with nothing to lose in a battle with Fisher. Fisher will be too much and take a late TKO victory

Thales Leites Vs. Drew McFedries
McFedries has been up and down in the UFC. Leites on the other hand has been on a roll lately with four wins in his last five bouts. Look for him to out work McFedries and score a decision win or maybe a late submission.

Sean Sherk Vs. Tyson Griffin
The two best pure wrestlers in the lightweight division lock horns in this bout. The winner will be the one who makes less mistakes. Sherk didn’t do himself any favors by abandoning his wrestling roots to show off his hands against BJ Penn. Look for the always in shape muscle shark to return to what he knows best in this bout. Griffin will look to keep the fight standing and will bring sold knees and fast strikes from long range and in the clinch. Sherk’s takedowns may be too much as he will control the fight and top position earning a workman like decision win.

Fabricio Werdum Vs. Junior Dos Santos
Werdum, who is a BJJ world champ, and now with the help of the world renowned Chute Boxe Academy, has a showcase fight on his hands with Junior. Fabricio should be in line for a title shot after the four man UFC tournament plays out. At 31 years old he is coming into his prime and should be a force in the UFC Heavyweight division for the years to come. Look for Werdum to exchange and gain top position before earning a TKO victory.

Rich Clementi Vs. Gray Maynard
This match features two exciting lightweights that are both often overlooked. Clementi is on a 6-fight win steak and has been very busy this year. Maynard is still unbeaten and is coming out of Xtreme Couture’s camp as an underrated contender in the lightweight division. Don’t expect Maynard to let Clementi rest in this fight as he will be in better condition and the stronger fighter. He should out work Clementi on his way to a decision win.

Josh Koscheck Vs. Thiago Alves
Koscheck comes in as a late replacement for Diego Sanchez, which actually makes a more compelling matchup. Alves, who has had weight issues in the past, should be the bigger of the two fighters at 170lbs. Rumor is he walks around at 210lbs and cuts to 170lbs. All that weight should make Koscheck the better conditioned of the two fighters. If Alves can keep the fight on his feet, he could give Koscheck fits with his superior arsenal of strikes. Kos will look to exchange and get it to the ground to work ground and pound. The control factor will go to Koscheck, but Alves is always one big shot away from putting his opponent to sleep. Look for Alves to continue his push to the title with a KO of Kos in the 2nd

Anderson Silva Vs. Patrick Cote
The only way Anderson Silva loses this fight is if the curse of being featured on All Access with Rachelle Leah comes to fruition. (Seriously, nothing against Rachelle, but how many fighters have been on that show and then lost?) Silva is just too good and has all but cleaned out the 185lbs division with his surgical striking and masterful all around game. Silva by KO/TKO in the first round.

Feature on Michelle Waterson from MMAweekly.com

To the naked eye, Michelle Waterson looks more like she should be gracing the pages of Maxim rather than beating up on opponents in caged combat. Just like the old cliché “looks can be deceiving” goes though, it turns out that the petite, 22-year-old, otherwise known as the “Karate Hottie,” packs as much firepower as she does gorgeous looks.

Waterson, a former bikini model and native of Aurora, Colo., has been throwing kicks and punches since the age of 10 when she took her first Karate class and, on Friday, she will attempt to give her hometown fans a dose of brutal theatrics when she makes her seventh professional start in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition at Broomfield Event Center.

“It’s gonna be an explosive fight,” said Waterson, who will face Tyra Parker on the 10-bout Strikeforce “Payback” card. The matchup will mark Waterson’s debut with the growing Strikeforce organization. “I heard Tyra’s really aggressive and good on the ground so it should be very exciting for the fans.”

As a contestant on the 2007 Oxygen network series, “Fight Girls,” a reality program that gave female kickboxers the opportunity to train and battle one another while living at a Las Vegas martial arts camp, Waterson introduced herself to a national audience.

“It was a great experience,” said Waterson of the time she spent filming the show. “ It helped me become a stronger person and helped me learn how to deal with problems on my own. It also showed me that fighting is not just physical, but also mental.”

Shortly before the TV stint, Waterson, who is half American and half Thai by descent, took a trip to Thailand where she fell in love with the country’s national sport – Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing).

It was the culmination of her past experiences in martial arts and her burning desire to excel at the sport of MMA that, a year and a half ago, led her to Albuquerque, N.M., where she has taken up residence to train under Greg Jackson, guru of one of the most finely tuned fight teams in the country.

“I needed to come here to take my career to the next level,” explained Waterson. “I’ve learned how to grapple on the ground and use my wrestling as a weapon. I’m a much more well-rounded fighter now.”

Her work with Team Jackson produced dividends five weeks ago when she forced an opponent to submit from an armbar just 22 seconds into their bout. “Albuquerque has become a second home for me, and the Jackson team has become my family.”

Tickets for Strikeforce “Payback,” priced from $30, are on sale at Ticketmaster (303-830-TIXS) and Ticketmaster.com

In the main event of the 10-bout card, knockout artist and Denver native Duane “Bang” Ludwig will attempt to avenge a previous knockout at the hands of “The Ultimate Fighter” season three veteran Sam “The Squeeze” Morgan. Superstar Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg will take on Hawaiian submission expert Falaniko “Niko” Vitale in a featured middleweight (185-pound limit) contest.

Broomfield Event Center doors will open for Strikeforce “Payback” at 5:30 PM MST and the preliminary card will begin at 6:30 PM MST. The main card will commence at 8 PM MST.
