XFO Show Brings Area’s Best Fight Night Yet!
Crystal Lake, IllinoisMake no mistake about it the X-treme Fighting Organization is a few smoke and mirrors away from being undeniably the most notable fighting promotion in the Midwest. The XFO has always been known as the “Small Show with Big Fights” and on Saturday, February 23, the area will get to witness the most exciting fight night yet in the 4 year history of the Promotion.
The night will play host to the return of UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter” season one veteran, Josh Rafferty (8-4) as he comes in off an impressive 16 second TKO win over Drew Reed back at XFO 20. Rafferty is on a strong 3 fight win streak and has won 4 of his last 5 bouts, with his only loss coming from Alex Karalexis at T.U.F. Finale back in April of 2005.
With an undercard of 10 or more amateur bouts, XFO 22 will also feature some of the best up and coming professional fighters in the country coming to Crystal Lake, including local favorites Mike Stumpf (7-1) who recently won his last bout in Extreme Challenge in January of 2008. Stumpf has won 7 of his last 8 bouts with his only loss coming from falling to a decision against XFO’s 2X Welterweight Champion, Ryan Williams. Another featured welterweight, Kevin Knabjan (7-3-1), comes off a nice win as well by putting away his opponent Josh Lee by a rear choke in round 1. Knabjan and Mike Stumpf are set to go to war in XFO’s April 25th show later this year.

The bantamweights take the stage once again, with local favorite Darius Turcinskas (2-2) of Keith Hackneys team taking on Muay Thai expert Nat McIntyre (5-1) of the world famous Minnesota Martial Arts Academy. Both of these fighters are known for their dominating stand-up performances and both look to push the pace. Also coming down from Minnesota is Nik Lentz (10-3-1), who is known for his world class wrestling and takedown ability. When it comes to wreslters, Lentz’s teammate, Jacob Volkman (3-0), and his stacked wrestling credentials are considered being some of the best in the business. Volkman, a 3x All American wrestler from the University of Minnesota also placed 3rd the NCAA finals next to Josh Koschek of the UFC.
Taking the amateur mma scene by storm and impressing the crowds with powerful slams and non-stop action in all 3 of his performances is rising star, Patrick Curran (0-0). Pat Curran, younger cousin to WEC contender and one of the top 5 featherweights in the world, Jeff “Big Frog” Curran, makes his professional MMA debut as he takes on hard hitting and aggressive opponent, Lazar Stojadjnovic (2-2) of Team Moto.
As if the card wasn’t stacked enough, XFO is excited to feature a super heavyweight bout between Natu Visnia (1-1) and Chicago’s very own Antoine “Herc” Hayes (6-4). “Herc” was last seen in the XFO cage in XFO 13 against former Chicago Bear, Alonzo Spellman. Tickets available now by calling (815)356-0454 or (815)245-2066. Be sure to stay tuned to www.x-fighting.tv for more details.

LiL Bulldog in the News
Felice LiL Bulldog Herrig, a former Fight Chix Fighter, made the local news recently. She is currently training at FLO MMA full time and recently was working at MMAwarehouse.com where Mika Casey and company run the most successful MMA Gear online store out there. Mika, Sarah and the rest of the MMAwarehouse crew, are great people and really helped Felice as she started to make the transition from reality star and amateur fighter to training full time and going pro. She is currently looking for that first MMA debut but has had 3 pro kickboxing matches to date.
We at Fight Chix wish her continued success….see her article here
Ashely “Loca” Sanchez has burst on to the female MMA scene recently. She started her martial arts training at the age of four in the style of Kuk Sool Won. She currently holds a 4th degree black belt in this system. At the age of 17, she started training and competing in muay thai. Two years later in 2004, at 19years old, she won the IKF ammatuer women’s welter weight championship. She has now been training in mixed martial arts for over one year. She currently runs her own gym called Old School Elite, and also trains with the Canton Silverback valetudo fight team.
She is 2-0 as a pro and her last opponent didn’t show at weigh-ins. She fights at 125-135lbs and is looking to get more experience and a shot at a major promotion in the future. She has also recently been sponored by FIGHT CHIX. Perhaps a shot at EliteXC womens division or Fatal Femmes Fighting is in the works.
